Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were immobilized onto electrospun nanofibers of aliphatic polyamide (PA) containing N-substituted pyrolidone ring, which was synthesized by melt polycondensation of salt type monomers composed of itaconic acid (IA) and 1,10-decanediamine. Immobilization of the ZnO nanoparticles onto the PA nanofiber was performed by immersion of the PA nanofiber into aqueous zinc acetate solution and a subsequent treatment it with aqueous basic solution. Formation of the ZnO nanoparticles with 50-100 nanometer was confirmed by FE-SEM, UV-Vis, XRD and photoluminescence spectroscopy analysis. The PA/ZnO hybrid nanofibers exhibit an excellent photocatalytic activity under UV light with a decolorization of methylene blue. The present study implied that the polyamide containing pyrolidone ring can be further used to immobilize other metal or metal oxide nanoparticles for various applications in catalysis, sensing, and biomedical sciences. |
