Controlled synthesis of metal nanoparticles has been a great interest in recent decades due to many potential applications of nanoparticles in detection and analysis devices. Using polymer matrices as templates to guide crystallization and growth of nano-materials would be one of them. We have demonstrated the use of polyelectrolyte multilayer thin film for this purpose, template for nanoparticle synthesis. Here we report the syntheses of gold and platinum nanoparticles using electrostatically and hydrogen-boned polyelectrolyte multilayers. In addition to the basic characterization, bio-compatibility and bio-sensing were tested on gold nanoparticles. Platinum nanoparticle-embedded films may also have a potential application on batteries. |
