Preparation and Characterization of PU / F-CNT Composites |

The electro active polymers (EAP) received relatively little attention due to the small number of available materials and their limited actuation capability. Shape memory polyurethane (PU) has the capability to regain their original shape upon application. In the present study, the influence of surface functionalized carbon nanotubes on the properties of the PU elastomer composites has been investigated. The modulus and stress at 100% elongation increases with increasing surface modified SWNT content. The micro structure and the fine dispersion of carbon nanotube in the PUcomposites have been examined by FESEM and TEM. The thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of the composite have been characterized by DMA and TGA. Electro active shape recovery has been observed for surface modified SWNT filled polyurethane composites with energy conversion efficiency. Hence, PU- SWNT composites may prove promising candidate for use as smart actuators. |
