The process, which producing hydrogen from water decomposition, is the most environmentally friendly method. In this study, Sb2S3-photosensitized ZnO photocatalysts (Sb2S3/ZnO) are introduced to enhance the production of hydrogen by water photo-splitting. A certain amount of x mol-% Sb2S3 ingredients are loaded onto the surfaces of rod typed ZnO (100~150 nm) as a photosensitizer to absorb wavelengths in visible radiation. The physicochemical characteristics of the Sb2S3, ZnO, and Sb2S3/ZnO particles were confirmed using the XRD, UV-vis spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, EDS/Mapping, XPS. The evolutions of H2 from water photo-splitting over the x mol-% Sb2S3/ZnO in the liquid system were enhanced compared with those over pure ZnO and Sb2S3. In particular, 73.9 mol/g of hydrogen gas was produced after 10 h when the 7.5 wt% Sb2S3/ZnO was used as a photocatalyst. |
