Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) have been widely used in a variety of electrochemical applications such as solid alkaline fuel cells, water electrolyses, and reverse electrodialysis, because of their transport capability to anions and high chemical durability under high pH conditions. Among them, the electrochemical production of hydrogen from nitrogen-compounds including ammonia has been perceived as an important application field. In this presentation, AEM research trends will be dealt with from commercially available membranes to synthetic membranes. The design concept of advanced AEMs will be also suggested. Finally, some attempts to satisfy technical requirements of AEMs targeted for the use of nitrogen-compounds will be briefly introduced. |
