Ammonia is an essential chemical for carbon-free hydrogen fuel carriers and is widely used in various fields. In the present, the NH3 production via the Haber-Bosch process, which needs harsh reaction conditions, consumes about 2 % of global energy, resulting in a large amount of CO2 emission. Thus, it is urgent to establish an alternative method. Recently, NH3 synthesis from electrocatalytic N2 reduction has been treated as a promising process. Nevertheless, the biggest challenge for N2 reduction reaction is the inertness of N2, and this reaction is dominated by hydrogen evolution reaction. As a result, building a superior electrocatalyst for N2 fixation under ambient circumstances remains a challenge. In this work, we employed a hydrothermal approach to make transition Fe-C-based electrocatalyst and used them as an efficient electrocatalyst for N2 fixation. |
