Environmently Friendly Polyurethane/Clay Nanocomposite Foam Using HFC-365mfc |

Rigid polyurethane foam(PUFs) used for carrying LNG demands high thermal insulation as well as high mechanical properties such as compressive strength and dimensional stability at very low temperature, which can hopefully be obtained by incorporating nanoclay. We attempted to find optimum conditions using environmently friendly blowing agent and water by molecular design and cell structure control. Cloisite 30B was employed to prepare PUFs nanocomposites. SEM morphologies of PUFs nanocomposites showed that small and uniform cell size compared with PUFs. As a result PUFs nanocomposites showed decreased thermal conductivity. The mechanical properties and dimensional stability of PUFs were remarkably enhanced at low and high temperature by incorporating nanoclay. The materials are expected to have potential applications in many areas where high mechanical strength and low thermal conductivity are desired. |
