제목 Effect of nanoconfinement on heliconical structure of twist bend nematic liquid crystal phase
초록 The twist bend nematic (NTB) liquid crystal (LC) phase has been recognized as a newly discovered interesting LC phase due to the exceptional chiral and bending behaviors at the nanoscale and high applicability. We could control the heliconical structures of NTB LC phase via nanoconfinement using the porous anodic aluminum (AAO) film. The heliconical structure could be modulated when it is subjected in porous AAO whose surface is treated with self-assembled monolayer(SAM)-giving different surface energies to the molecules. The molecules tend to be more freely interacting each other thus forming larger conical angle in the weaker surface energy condition. On the other hand, more tightly packed structure and smaller conical angle was formed when the molecules were suspended in stronger energy condition. The collective behaviors of heliconical structures were investigated using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) method with a synchrotron radiation.
