Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) have high intrinsic conductivities, but simple solvent casting and melt blending of nanotubes have not been successful in producing highly conductivity nanocomposites, because of their poor solubility and dispersibility in polymer matrix and organic solvents. To enhance the dispersion properties of MWNTs in polymer matrix and organic solvents, the surface of MWNTs should be chemically modified. Upon multiple hydrogen bonding interactions, functionalized MWNTs by quadruple hydrogen bonds with ureidopyrimidinone can be well dispersed not only in the organic solvents but also in polyamide matrix. Polyamide/functionalized MWNT nanocomposites were prepared by solvent-casting and polyamide/functionalized MWNT nanocomposites exhibited better electrical properties due to the uniform dispersion of MWNTs in polyamide marix, compared to those of polyamide/pristine MWNT nanocomposites. |
