제목 Development of peptide-modified hyaluronic acid hydrogels for neural stem cell therapy
초록 Transplantation of neural stem cells (NSCs) holds great promise for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such as chronic stroke or Parkinson's disease. However, the use of NSCs alone to promote neurogenesis remains limited because of poor stem cell survival and differentiation after transplantation. Here we have developed functionalized hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels for the purposes of enhancing proliferation and differentiation of NSCs. For efficient photo-crosslinking, methacrylate moieties were conjugated to HA backbone. After NSCs were photoencapsulated into HA hydrogels, NSCs remained viable in the gel constructs. HA was further modified with several types of peptide sequences which are known to facilitate cell adhesion and neurite extension. NSC proliferation and differentiation on those HA-peptide hydrogels will be examined shortly. This work was supported by a grant (2010-0020409) funded by the National Research Foundation, Korea.
