Part I: The anisotropic physical properties of columnar discotic liquid crystal (DLC) have attracted great interest for their potential applications as electronic devices. For many applications, it is crucial to obtain uniaxially oriented and highly ordered columnar superstructures of DLC molecules covering large area. Here, we present a new method to fabricate uniaxially oriented and highly ordered columnar superstructures of CoS10 in bulk and on substrates, utilizing a magnetic field and the surface interaction. Part II: The SWNTs have remarkable properties that have various potential applications. However, insolubility and bundling of SWNTs in solution are problematic. Recently, we reported a new type of functionalized and isolated SWNTs (p-SWNTs) that are readily re-dispersible in water and alcohols and stable for months, greatly enhancing the processibility of SWNTs. Recent results to fabricate ordered SWNT superstructures in polymeric systems using p-SWNTs will be discussed. |
