A novel pentacene precursor thin film transistors with UV curable material as a dielectric layer |

We describe the soluble pentacene precursor thin film transistors with UV curable material as a gate insulator layer. OTFTs comprising vacuum deposited thin film of pentacene provide p-type semiconducting channels and high field effect carrier mobilities. Furthermore, pentacene has been shown to be the most environmentally stable organic semiconductor. However, the main drawback for pentacene is that it is essentially insoluble in organic solvent. One approach to solution processable semiconductors has been to use of a soluble precursor of semiconducting compound to form a thin film, followed by conversion to the insoluble semiconducting form, by heating at elevated temperature. To synthesize soluble pentacene precursors, we employed a Diels-Alder reaction. And the use of UV curable material as a gate insulator layer is expected to provide a patternability, excellent thermal stability, and good surface smoothness. |
