Effect of the Concentration of Ionic Liquids on Device Performance in Hybrid Solar Cells |

We investigate the effect of concentration of ionic liquids (IL) on device performance and optimize the device configuration by varying infiltration condition of poly (2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-p-phenylene vinylene) (MEH-PPV) and IL concentration. We observe the trend that short circuit current decreased and open circuit voltage increased with increasing the IL concentration which is attributed to interruption of charge transfer from MEH-PPV to TiO2 and the changes in interfacial energy level, respectively. Optimized device with IL layer of 0.01 wt.% showed ~120 % improved power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared to PCE of reference device without IL layer due to better charge transfer, enhanced electric field and reduction of inherent incompatibility between MEH-PPV and TiO2. |
