제목 Preparation of Electric Double Layer Capacitors Electrodes based on Carbon Nanotube Materials
초록 The carbon nanotubes (CNTs) show promising electrochemical characteristics particularly for electrochemical energy storage. The electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) is a new type of capacitor with features intermediate between those of a battery and a conventional capacitor. In this work, the multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with surface modification are chosen for EDLCs, which have been made using the MWNTs as electrode materials. The changes of surface functional groups, chemical compositions, and structures of the MWNTs are characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. We examine cyclic voltammetry and ac impedance response in polymer electrolyte. Commercially available activated carbon (a-C) electrodes are also tested in order to compare their specific capacitance as a function of their physical properties. Furthermore, the relation to the electric double layer capacitance, especially the specific capacitance per unit area, is also discussed. As a result, the specific capacitance per surface area of the electrodes depends on the thickness, the surface chemistry, and the specific surface area of the active materials used.
