Stimuli-responsive photonic materials have garnered increasing research interest due to their versatile scientific and engineering applications. Recently, our group reported block copolymer photonic gels which are sensitive to external chemical and electrical stimuli, and demonstrated their potential applications in the field of sensors and displays. Especially, our system has been proved to be useful for real time monitoring of environmentally important elements such as heavy metal ions, toxic chemicals and carbon dioxide. Herein we report another application of tunable block copolymer photonic gels in monitoring carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 sensitive photonic gels were fabricated by functionalizing photonic gels with protic ionic liquid. NMR, IR, UV and SEM were used for characterization of CO2 sensitive photonic gels. |
