제목 Optical anisotropy of the photo-functional polymer containing a chalcone group either in the side chain or in the main chain for application to the LC alignment layer
초록 Significant research has been carried out about the preparation of photoactive liquid crystals alignment layer for liquid crystal display. In the pursuit of these objectives, we investigated the generation of birefringence due to the nematic low molecular weight liquid crystal (NLMW-LC) alignment in LC cells by irradiation of the linearly polarized UV light on the film surface.
We synthesized two types of photo-functional materials containing a chalcone moiety in side chain (P1) or main chain (P2) in the polymer. The [2+2] photocycloaddition of chalcone moieties was conducted with the irradiation at 300~360nm in the film state, which was observed by the UV-Vis-absorption spectroscopic analysis.
The exposure time dependence of the dichroic ratio was observed in the LC cell fabricated by the synthesized polymer film. Thermal stability of the optical anisotropy in the polymer film was also investigated during heating. The photo-alignment behavior of NLMW-LC was observed using the LC cell fabricated with the UV exposed film.
We have studied the photo-alignment behavior of NLMW-LC on the these polymer film.
