Synthesis and Properties of Poly(2-ethynyl-N-hexylpyridinium compound)s with Different Count Anions |

Polyacetylene and its homologues have been promising as organic semiconductors, as membranes for gas separation and for liquid-mixture separation, as chiro-optical materials, as side-chain liquid crystals, as materials for chemical sensors, and as materials for nonlinear optical property, and for photoluminescence and electroluminescence properties. Now we report the synthesis of novel ionic conjugated polymers having different counter anion by the simple reaction of 2-ethynylpyridine and n-hexyl halides and and the electro-optical properties of these ionic conjugated polymers. These ionic conjugated polymers were synthesized by the direct polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine and the corresponding n-hexyl halides without any additional initiator or catalyst under mild reaction condition. The similar homologues with different count anions were prepared by the simple ion-exchange reaction. The polymer structures were characterized to have the conjugated polymer backbone system having N-hexylpyridyl moieties with the corresponding counter anions. The photoluminescence spectra of the resulting polymers were measured and discussed. The redox current value of these polymers was increased as the scan rate was increased in the scan rate range of 20 – 120 mV/s, and the electrochemical process was reproducible. |
