Inclusion complexes of hyperbranched, star-shaped, diblock, and linear polymers combined with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) were successfully prepared using self-assembly caused by the hydrophobic interaction. Hyperbranched polymer was synthesized by moisture-sensitive catalyst-free polycondensation of AB2 macromonomers, 2,2-bis[ω-hydroxy oligo(ε-caprolactone)methyl]-propionic acids (그림1). Star-shaped polymer and diblock copolymer were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone with multifunctional core and poly(propylene glycol) monobutyl ether, respectively. Inclusion complexes were prepared by the penetration of these polymers into the cavity of α-CD, and then their formation was proven by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WXRD) (그림2), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourior transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Furthermore, various morphologies of inclusion complexes caused by the architecture of poly(ε-caprolactone)s were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).
