제목 Synthesis and Characterization of Fluorinated Poly(arylene ether)sfor Polymeric Optical Waveguide
초록 Silica has been widely used for optical waveguide devices. But it is difficult to fabricate waveguide devices with silica. But polymers are more easily processed than silica. So polymers are of considerable interest for optical and electronic applications in recent years. On the other hand, their main problems to be solved are mechanical, thermal stability, and optical loss. In this study, we focused on the synthesis and characterization of fluorinated poly(arylene ether)s with a goal of lowering birefringence at telecommunication wavelength region of 1.55mm, a sufficient thermal stability, and a chemical resistance to withstand typical fabrication processing and operation conditions. The poly(arylene ether)s were synthesized through nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction ( SNAr ) of pentafluorophenyl sulfide with diol monomer based on Pd-catalysis Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. And we introduced the thermally crosslinkable ethynyl group in the polymer chain end to increase the glass transition temperature ( Tg ) of fluorinated poly(arylene ether)s. The synthesized polymers were characterized by 1H-, 19F- NMR and FT-IR etc. The properties of the polymers were characterized by DSC and TGA etc.
