This study is to analyze the effect of nanoscale clay contents on the curing kinetics and physical properties of dicyanate/clay nanocomposites. Using the thermal analysis data measured by a DSC at various clay contents a curing kinetics for the dicyanate/clay nanocomposite has been determined. DMA and TGA data were used to analyze thermal and mechanical properties of the dicyanate/clay nanocomposites. The curing rate of the dicyanate/clay nanocomposite increased as the clay content was increased. The reaction kinetics of the nanocomposites could be described well by the second order autocatalytic kinetic equation. The glass transition temperature of the dicyanate/clay nanocomposites obtained from DSC and DMA data increased with increasing clay content. XRD and TEM data showed an exfoliation and intercalation structure in the dicyanate/clay nanocomposite system. |
