UV photopolymerizations of conventional acrylate macromonomers, bisphenol-A based, urethane based and ethylene glycol based, with typical photoinitiators, Irgacure 184/907, have been studied. Urethane based macromonomers polymerized much faster than ethene glycol based macromonomers and had elastomeric character of the cured networks due to both their greater segmental mobility in the backbone and higher molecular weight and/or longer chain length. In the methacrylate and diacrylate system the suppressing effect on photopolymerization rates was observed because of the presence of methyl group in the side chain which might hinder the approaching of reactive site on the photopolymerization path. |
