Hydrogen bonding is secondary interaction between molecules, which can be used to accomplish supramolecular structure. Our objective is introducing hydrogen bonding to make complexes of different molecules, which reveal thermotropic discotic liquid crystals (DLCs). And then introduced photo-polymerizable group to mesogenic molecules (Biphenyl-pyridine) due to their fixation of structure at mesomorphic phase. And then polyemrized by UV irradiation. The existence of the hydrogen-bonded complexes was studied by FT-IR spectroscopy. The mesomorphic properties of complexes were studied by DSC, POM and X-ray diffraction. After photo-polymerization of complexes by UV irradiation, properties of complexes was characterized by DSC, POM, X-ray diffraction, and UV-VIS. |
