High-force generation of Nafion-based polymer transducer |
초록 |
Ionic Polymer Metal Composites (IPMCs) are a kind of ionic electro-active polymer (EAP) with many advantages such as large bending deformation and low driving voltage. However, they definitely have a low generating force, although their great potential for application to artificial muscles. In this study, we fabricated thick Nafion-based IPMC actuator by ‘heat-compression method’, as a new scale-up processing of an ionomers. The actuation capability of the prepared actuator has a tendency to significantly agree with the equivalent beam theory. Also, it was achieved high bending stiffness and generating stress with due its strain rate. We observed that the blocked force of 4-layered actuator (20 mm width x 30 mm length x 1 mm thickness) raises to about 100 gf. (for 10 sec, under DC 5 V). This sufficient improvement of the actuation performance will be leading to a wide applicability into soft biomimetic device as like artificial muscles. |
