We introduce a new method to fabricate an electrical stimulus-responsive polypyrrole membrane to have uniform pore size with less than 100 nm and uniform pore size distribution. For this purpose, anodic porous aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane was first prepared. The thickness and pore size of the AAO membrane was 50 um, and 300 nm, respectively. Then, gold was thermally evaporated onto one of the AAO membrane surface. Polypyrrole in the presence of dodecylbenzenesulfonate (PPy(DBS)) was electropolymerized on AAO membranes. Typical thickness of PPy(DBS) film is larger than 100 nm, which is varied by the electro-polymerization times. Since electro-polymerized PPy(DBS) grows toward both the thickness direction and the lateral direction, the final PPy(DBS) thin film has pore sizes less than that in the AAO membrane. When we applied electrical field by a potentiostat, the pore size was changed reversibly with electric field, which was confirmed by atomic force microscopy and flux measurement. |
