Steam Reforming Catalyst of LPG for Hydrogen Station Applications |

The Influence of time on stream, GHSV and temperature on the steam reforming of LPG over Ni-based oxide catalysts for hydrogen station and fuel processor applications was investigated. The supported nickel catalysts (12wt% Ni/S, S=Al2O3, MgO and CeO2) were prepared by impregnation method and characterized by N2 physisoprtion, CO chemisorption, XRD, SEM, TEM, TPR and XPS. It was found that BET surface area of Ni/MgO catalyst was higher than these of the other catalysts. The H2 concentration over Ni/MgO catalyst did not changed under the tested conditions, but that over Ni/Al2O3 slowly decreased at less than 700℃. It was also found that methane over Ni/MgO catalyst was produced at less than 650℃, but that over Ni/Al2O3 was formed under 750℃. There is no major changes in the X-ray diffraction patterns of the Ni/MgO catalysts before and after the reaction but nickel carbide (NiC) phase over Ni/Al2O3 catalyst after the reaction was confirmed. The behavior of the reduced NiO/MgO catalyst is probably due to the formation of a NiO/MgO solid solution. It was concluded that Ni/MgO catalyst is a promising candidate for the production of hydrogen by the steam reforming of LPG. |
