Fabrication and enhanced antibacterial activity of amine containing polymer shell coated silica nanoparticles |

Thin poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) shells were fabriceted on the surface of silica nanoparticles via vapor deposition polymerization. The poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) polymer shell on the silica surface was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In this study, controlling particle diameter could be performed by varying the size of the silica core. The core/shell silica nanoparticles with enlarged surface area presented enhanced antibacterial performance without additional quaternization. |
