Here, we proposed a solution processed solar CO2 reduction system, that is, the integrated photocathode of an efficient N doped ZnTe photocatalyst and N doped carbon electrocatalyst. This system is the further extended version of photocatalyst-electrocatalyst combination for selective solar CO production at very low applied bias by cost effective techniques. Substitutional N doping instead of Te in ZnTe affects the decreased band gap and the increased charge separation influencing high photocatalytic performance. Also N doped carbon promotes the selective CO2 to CO conversion, with suppressing water to H2 reduction by providing active site for CO2 adsorption and activation. The integrated photocathode represents promising performances in terms of a photocurrent (-1.21 mAcm-2 at -0.11 VRHE), a CO selectivity (dominant CO production of 72 %, minor H2 reduction of 20% in faradaic efficiency) and a highly improved stability (suppressing corrosion). The developed photocatalyst and electrocatalyst exhibits a good synergistic effect and the combined system shows the strong possibility of practical solar fuel production. |
