Compared to current treatments including surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy (PDT) offers the advantage of an effective and selective method of destroying diseased tissues without damaging surrounding healthy tissues. In PDT, one of the problems limiting the use of many photosensitizers (PS) is the difficulty in preparing pharmaceutical formulations that enable their parenteral administration. We synthesized a ligand-mediated nanoparticulate drug carrier composed of folic acid-conjugated amphiphilic block copolymers to achieve targeted delivery for PS. The synthesis and composition of the PEG-PBLA copolymers were confirmed by 1H-NMR. The properties of the folic acid-conjugated copolymeric nanoparticles were described by size,CMCand PS loading contents. |
