제목 Preparation of oligosaccharides from sodium alginate by hydrogen peroxide
초록 Alginate is a kind of polysaccharide occurred from natural products especially from brown seaweeds. Alginate has been used in a wide range of fields. Molecular weight control of alginate is very important for specific application. High molecular weigh alginate limits its application of specific fields caused by its high viscosity and poor solubility in water. So controlling the molecular weight of alginate has been researched to get the low molecular weight alginate by using enzymatic, chemical treatment, and γ-irradiation. In this study, hydrogen peroxide was used for the low molecular weight sodium alginate with a short reaction time. As a result, hydrogen peroxide is much more effective than any other chemicals in lowering the molecular weight of sodium alginate. Controlling the molecular weight of sodium alginate was charaterized by using solution viscometry, HPLC, FT-IR, and 13C-NMR. The β-elimination of sodium alginate was speculated in controlling the molecular weight.
