Optical fabrication of SRGs induced by reversible trans-cis-trans photoisomerization of azobenzene functionalized materials have significant advantages in terms of a one-step process, controllability of grating profile, reversibility, and the capability of superimposing multiple patterns in the same spot. However, there are several limitations because of weak thermal and chemical stabilities in application of SRGs to the optoelectronic and electronic devices such as light emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, and thin film transistors. In this presentation, we report on synthesis of a photo-crosslinkable azo polymer to overcome these problems. SRGs fabricated on azo polymer films exhibited improved thermal and chemical stability, resulting from the crosslinking of azo polymer containing acryloyl groups by irradiation of UV light. Improved properties were confirmed by the measurements of their optical properties and grating profiles after thermal treatment and solvent resistance test. |
