Hydrogels consisting of polymeric materials with the hydrophilic structure are capable of absorbing large amounts of water in their three-dimensional networks. E-beam radiation is a form of ionizing energy that is generally characterized by its low penetration and high dosage rates. The beam, a concentrated, highly charged stream of electrons, attacks the chemical bond of polymer then makes a radical site to form cross-linking. In this study, hydrogel based on PVP/PVA were synthesized in different amount of Polyhedral Oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS) in water by E-beam. A water-soluble POSS was prepared by the hydrolysis and condensation reaction of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane. The novel hydrogels containing POSS using E-beam irradiation were characterized by gel strength, swelling degree and thermal stability. |
