Highly Crystalline and Low Bandgap Donor Polymers for Efficient Polymer Solar Cells |

We synthesize a highly crystalline and low bandgap donor-π- acceptor polymer using ethylene bridging unit to ensure a coplanar configuration between the side and main chain. We also fabricate polymer solar cells using this polymer as an electron donor and PCBM as an electron acceptor. The device with the active layer spin-coated at 25 °C shows a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 1.53 %, while the device spin-coated at 120 °C shows a PCE of 5.07 %. The greatly enhanced PCE by high temperature solution processing can be attributed to the thermally-induced chain self-ordering into the desirable bi-continuous morphology with a relatively high crystalline in the active layer. |
