제목 Enhancement of adhesive strength for the hydroxyapatite thin films coated with Alginate/Chitosan polyelectrolyte multilayers by LBL Technique
초록 The most significant problem for the orthopedic metallic implants was the interfacial adhesion between the metals (Titanium, Steel, Nitinol) and bio-ceramics which led to implant failures. To overcome this issue, here we studied the Titanium (Ti) surface was tailored by alginate (Alg) and chitosan (Chi) polymers using layer by layer technique. Further this Ti multilayered polyelectrolyte thin film was coated with hydroxyapatite (HAp) by spin coating. Rod shaped HAp was synthesized by hydrothermal technique having an elongated hexagonal rods (75 x 25 nm2). The pure Ti surface showed hydrophobic, whereas Ti-Alg/Chi-HAp thin films surface turns hydrophilic. The proliferative potential for Ti-Alg/Chi-HAp samples showed noncytotoxic by MTT assay and cell imaging. Hence the polyelectrolyte multilayers of Ti-Alg/Chi substrates coated with HAp implants might prevent the post-surgical infections and could promote bone bonding of orthopedic devices.
