Hybrid chitosan/acrylic emulsions and their films were prepared by emulsion polymerization under various conditions. Acrylic acid (AA), methacrylic acid (MA), Styrene, n-butyl acrylate (BA), methylmethacrylate (MMA), 2-ethyl-hexylacrylate (2-EHA) as monomers and ammonium persulfate as an initiator were used. The viscosity of chitosan/acrylic resin emulsion as a function of time was measured by viscometer. The viscosity of hybrid chitosan/acrylic resin emulsion was higher than that of acrylic resin emulsion, and that of hybrid chitosan/acrylic resin was increased with increasing chitosan contents. Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) indicated that the structure of chitosan/acrylic films were formed. Dynamics Laser Scattering (DLS) analysis indicated that average diameter of chitosan/acrylic resin emulsion was bigger than acrylic resin emulsion. |
