The biosorbent powders were prepared from sliced (SGV) and pressed (GGV) pieces of garlic (Allium sativum L.) by drying process in the vacuum and the mercury removal capabilities of biosorption powders were also performed. BET surface areas of biosorbent powders were vary between 0.1259 m2/g for SGV powder and 0.0086 m2/g for GGV powder. In the GGV powder case, S=S, S-C, S-S and CS(O)SC bonds in the structure of alliin were more broken to allicin by physical force. These both biosorbents were accumulated completely mercury ions from the solution 200 g/l after an hour. |
