The silica-coated PET fabrics are commonly used for outdoor advertisement banners and pose serious environmental and economic problems. Several methods were investigated to recycle the silica-coated PET fabrics for commercial products but the product quality and customer satisfaction were low due to high level of surface impurities including silica, binder, synthetic dye, etc. We successfully developed and optimized a treatment process to remove surface impurities from silica-coated waste PET fabrics. The chemically treated PET fabrics can be recycled to synthesize various commercial products. |
