Carboxymethyl pachyman (CMP) is water-soluble derivative of pachyman. Polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) of CMP and chitosan (CS) was formed by addition of CMP solution to chitosan solution under mild conditions. The physicochemical properties of CMP-CS nanoparticles were determined at pH value, salt concentration and polymer concentration in medium. The size of PEC was in the range of 115-378nm measured, and the zeta potential value was between 13-53 mV at various polymer concentrations and mixing ratio. The stability of the complex was changed by alteration of the pH, and addition of salt to physiological ionic strength. The toxicity of PEC did not evidence a significant effect at various concentrations on cells viability. Investigation on the encapsulation efficiency of bovine serum albumin was approximately 80%. The release characteristic was evaluated at pH 1.2, 5 and 7.3. The result showed that the BSA release form the CMP-CS nanoparticles is much influenced by the pH of medium. |
