Gelatin is a denatured form of collagen, a fibrous structural protein, which is extracted from animal hide. Various types of gelatins are widely utilized for foods, films, glues, moisturizers, medical devices and many other industrial products. We prepared gelatin hydrogels crosslinked by electron beam (EB) and γ-ray irradiation. After irradiation, the physical properties of gelatin gels were investigated by measuring gel fraction, mechanical properties and swelling ratio. The gelatin scaffolds of sponge type were prepared by swelling for 3 hrs, 60℃ and freeze drying. They were characterized with morphology, mechanical property and porosity. In addition, human fibroblast and rabbit chondrocyte seeded scaffolds were cultured in vitro. The samples were embedded in paraffin for staining with hematoxylin–eosin (H&E) and mansson trichrome (MT) to characterize the cell proliferation and photographed. |
