Cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) are one of the widely used liquid crystals in display industry. This is because they can make a circularly polarized light and this feature produces a lot of applications such as reflective films, color filter and E-paper. Since CLC phase was made simply by mixing a chiral dopant into nematic liquid crystals, a proper choice of chiral dopant becomes very important. In this study, we synthesized two different type chiral dopants using isosorbide as a chiral moiety. One has ester linkage and the other has azomethine linkage in mesogenic units. The physical properties of chiral dopants were characterized with DSC, XRD, POM and UV-Vis instruments. CLC films were prepared with LC242, purchased from BASF and their properties were characterized with a viewpoint of chiral dopant. |
