Smoke generation properties of wood panels painted with flame retardants |

This study was conducted to respect to the smoke generation properties of the Si sol flame retardants. Smoke generation properties were measured using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-2) with three kinds of flame retardants. The flame retardants were synthesized with sodium silicate and slane compounds. The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Mass loss rate(g/s) of all specimens was 0.0235∼0.0305 range and that of Si sol with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane had the smallest value. The total smoke release rate of Si sol with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane was the lowest value as 309.8 m2/m2 while that of Si sol with N-2-(aminoethyl)-3-aminopropylmethyltrimethoxysilane was the highest value as 593.4 m2/m2. The total smoke production of all specimens was 2.7 m2 to 5.3 m2 and Si sol with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane was measured in the lowest value. Time to the peak smoke production rate was 15 s to 20 s, appearing in the peak of the first smoke production rate. |
