Tetrapyrrole derivatives find a variety of useful properties, including outstanding stability, architectural flexibility, and diverse coordination properties. Among them, phthalocyanine (Pc), containing an extended electron-rich aromatic macrocycle, exhibits superior spectroscopic characteristics and fascinating electrical/electrochemical properties. Herein author intends to cover the synthesis and electrochemical applications of Pc derivatives, with a focus on the synthesis and electrochemical properties of symmetrical and unsymmetrical Pc derivatives. We have manipulated the synthetic routes to prepare peripheral-substituted Pc derivatives. By doing this, it has been intended to increase the effective conjugation length, provide preferential reaction sites, and thus enhance the chemical and electrochemical activity. In addition, Pc/carbon hybrid materials and donor-acceptor type conjugated polymers will be addressed in detail. |
