Expanded graphite/epoxy composites were prepared by melt mixing method, and thermal properties of the composites were investigated in DSC, TGA, and DTA measurements. And fracture toughness was determined by impact tests. As a result, SEM observation showed that the graphites were homogeneously dispersed with the epoxy in this system. Also, the curing temperature and thermal stability were increased in addition of expanded graphites and the maximum impact strength of the composites was found at 1 phr of expanded graphites. The results could be attributed to the multi-pore feature of expanded graphites and strong interaction between epoxy resin and OH or COOH group of expanded graphites. |
