Dimethyl ether (DME) carbonylation for the synthesis of methyl acetate (MA), which can be further hydrogenated to form ethanol or hydrated to acetic aicd selectively, was investigated using a lab-made H-form Ferrierite (FER). The synthesis of FER using various seeding materials such as FER, ZSM-5 and Y and so on showed different surface morphologies and crystallinities, and the FER prepared with a FER seed enhanced catalytic activity and stability. This superior activity was attributed to the increased crystallinity by reducing structural defect sites and selective suppression of strong acid sites, which further suppressed coke deposition and catalyst deactivation. The physicochemical properties of the FER zeolites with different seeding materials were analyzed by XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, and pyridine-IR. |
