Antifouling paints have been used to prevent attaching of marine organisms which make the ships spend more fuel on plying by increasing weight of ship hulls. There are many types of antifouling paints. Among these several types, we had been studied traditional acrylate copolymer type which can be self-polished in sea water. And then we have been studied polyurethane resin which is considered to be applied as the new type of antifouling paint matrix. In this study, we investigated polyurethane(PU) resins as a kind of new antifouling paint matrix by using polyethylene glycol(PEG), 4,4’-diphenylmethane diisocyanate(MDI), 2,2’-bis(hydroxyl methyl)-propionic acid(DMPA) and various quaternary ammonium salts(QAS). After synthesis, we tested physical self-polishing properties of PU resins by the measurement of reduced film thickness in sea water. |
