Preparation of Polarizing Film for PES Substrate |

Commercial polarizing film is made of poly(vinyl alcohol)-iodine complex, which is vulnerable to heat and moisture attack. An attempt has been made to substitute PVA with other polymeric material such as PES for polarizing film, which is one of the best candidates for plastic substrate for flexible display. Direct stretching and dyeing for PES showed poor polarizing performance due to the limitations in stretching and complex formation with dye. For improvement of polarization efficiency reactive liquid crystal mesogen and dichroic dye mixtures were coated on PES film followed by exposure to polarized UV. Subsequent stretching of liquid crystal polymer coated film still enhanced the performance. |
