Poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) has found numerous uses due to its excellent combination of properties, including good mechanical and thermal stability, resistance to chemical attack, and flame resistance. As PPS is also required to be used in textile form, it is now an important issue to study the dyeability of PPS and to find the optimal condition of dyeing. Quantitative adsorption kinetics and equilibrium parameters for disperse and cationic dyeing onto PPS fiber will be studied using a dye-O-meter. The effect of initial dye concentration, contact time, material to liquor ratio (MLR), temperature, carrier concentration, and type of dye will be discussed to find the optimal conditions for adsorption. If all the dyeing conditions are optimized, then it can be lethal to be used for commercial dyeing.
