In order to improve the surface hydrophobicity of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl acrylate (PFDA) was grafted onto CNC surface using electron beam irradiation. The water contact angle of CNC increased as the electron beam dose increased. FT-IR spectra showed that the peak of ester and fluoroalkanes increases with increasing electron beam dose. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that F1s peaks appear by electron beam irradiation. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the residual amount of CNC decreased with increasing electron beam dose. The morphology by scanning electron microscopy showed that spherical particles appeared on CNC surface by electron beam irradiation. |
