In this study, hollow carbon spheres were prepared from PMMA/PAN core/shell spheres by electron beam irradiation and carbonization. Uniform PMMA/PAN core/shell spheres were prepared using two-step surfactant-free emulsion polymerization. The PMMA/PAN core/shell spheres were irradiated with electron beams at various absorbed doses. The irradiated PMMA/PAN core/shell spheres were stabilized in air at 230 oC for 30 min and then carbonized under N2 atmosphere at 800 oC for 2 h to obtain hollow carbon spheres. The final hollow carbon spheres were characterized by dynamic light scattering, TGA, SEM, BET, FT-IR, XPS, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. The electrochemical properties of hollow carbon spheres were also investigated. |
