Icosahedral carboranes have been widely investigated due to their unique properties, such as thermal and chemical stabilities with unusual geometry. Depending on the position of the two carbon atoms, they have three different geometrical isomers: ortho-, meta-, and para-. Recently, it was reported that the ortho-carborane(o-cb) can act as an electron acceptor when two aryl groups attached in perpendicular fashion. This unique property of o-cb make them a class of electronically useful compound and leads them to practical applications, such as electronic materials. Interestingly, however, carborane based hole transporting material (HTM) in perovskite solar cell has not been reported. In this regard, we prepared o-cb based HTM, Cb-OMe, and its energy gap is appropriate to be utilized in peroskite solar cell. Detailed photophysical and electrochemical properties of Cb-OMe were investigated and its application in perovskite solar cell as a HTM was examined.
