제목 Fabrication and Characterization of Starch-Polyvinyl Alcohol Hydrogel for Tissue Engineering Applications
초록 Hydrogels have been used for a variety of applications in the medical and pharmaceutical industries due to their ability to retain large amounts of water, have rubbery and soft consistency that resemble living tissues and extracellular matrix. Starch and polyvinyl alcohol was used to fabricate hydrogels with epichlorohydrin as crosslinking agent for tissue engineering applications. Starch-PVA hydrogels with different powder blends were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), swelling rate and porosity. Morphologies revealed interconnected porosity after crosslinking with decreasing porosity as amount of starch-PVA powder increased. FTIR spectra revealed evident formation of hydrogen bonding after crosslinking, decreased in swelling rate and a porosity suitable for tissue engineering applications (50-80%). Biocompatibility of starch-PVA hydrogels were determined using Bone marrow stem cells (BMSC).
